National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week 2016

National Volunteer Week is celebrated across Canada from April 15 to 21, 2018. It's a time when we recognize our volunteers for their valuable time and tireless efforts in making a difference in our community.

At Hospice, not a day goes by when we do not hear a story about how a volunteer has touched the life of a client and family. Whether it is a volunteer visitor, a gardener, an office volunteer or volunteers who serve on the Board or committees, Hospice owes them a debt of gratitude.

Hospice volunteers are the way in which our community is involved at the most personal level in the care and support of the dying. Volunteers are an essential component of our hospice care team. Hospice volunteers:

  • Build relationships with clients and families which support them through difficult times
  • Enhance the flexibility in the system of care
  • Advocate on behalf of the individual client and service
  • Undertake tasks which enhance the quality of life for clients and their families
  • Work with a professional team
  • Bring community perspective to the service
  • Enhance resources for service delivery
  • Provide the invaluable “gift of time”
  • And so much more.
But don't take it from us - hear about why people like Sue, Linda, and Anne volunteer with St. Joseph's Hospice by clicking on each video link below.

“Volunteers are the heart of St. Joseph’s Hospice. We couldn’t do what we do without you.”

Julie Johnston, Executive Director

“Each of you has a story to tell about why you volunteer. Your backgrounds are diverse, your life experiences are individual, yet each of you have a united bond. You are compassionate, caring, thoughtful, sincere and dedicated and we sincerely appreciate everything you do. Thank you.”

Carla McDonald, Volunteer Services Coorindator

Thank you for everything you do for St. Joseph's Hospice!
