Ryan's Story
In Memory of Edward

Ryan celebrated her first birthday this year. Her neighbour  Edward, born shortly afterward, died during childbirth. If Edward had lived, he and Ryan would both be celebrating their first birthdays together.

To help the family through their unimaginable grief, Edward's older brother attended Camp Caring for Kids, a three-day retreat provided by St. Joseph's Hospice for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

When Ryan’s parents found out that Hospice’s Camp Caring for Kids supported Edward’s brother through his grief they decided they wanted to help Hospice by making a gift. So, as they planned Ryan’s first birthday party they asked that in lieu of gifts, instead, people make a donation to Hospice.

"In lieu of gifts for Ryan's birthday, we requested that our family and friends make a donation in memory of Edward. We hope all children grieving the loss of a loved one find support and care through the programming at St. Joseph's Hospice" says Heather.

"We are very close with our neighbors and shared their pain when they lost their son, Edward" shared Ryan's mother, Heather.

Supported by the generosity of the community and healthcare partners, all services at St. Joseph's Hospice are offered at no cost. For more information on our Grief and Bereavement Services or to make a donation, please click here.
