Volunteer Openings

Volunteer Reflexologists
Certified reflexologists provide therapies to clients in the community and in our Hospice Wellness Centre. Therapists must have completed a Reflexology Program at an approved educational facility. 

Volunteer Healing Touch Practitioner
Certified Healing Touch practitioners provide therapies to clients in the community and in our Hospice Wellness Centre. Therapists must have completed a Healing Touch Program at an approved facility. 

Volunteer Esthetician
Certified Estheticians needed to provide manicures and pedicures in our Hospice Wellness Centre.

Volunteer Hairstylist
Certified hairstylist needed to provide haircut and style in our Hospice Wellness Centre.

Volunteer Registered Massage Therapist
Certified Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) provide massage therapy to clients in the community and in our Hospice Wellness Centre. Therapists must have completed a Registered Massage Therapy Program at an approved educational facility.

Hospice volunteers will be required to take the Fundamentals of Palliative Care course offered at St. Joseph's Hospice.

Other Volunteer Roles:

Volunteer Visitor
Volunteer visitors offer comfort and companionship to clients with a palliative illness as well as respite for their caregivers and families in the community. Weekday availability and transportation is preferred.  

Special Event/Fundraising Volunteer
Volunteers support St. Joseph's Hospice special events, including planning committee participation, logistics and fundraising support. If you are interested in this role, please contact Cassandra Benard at cassandra.benard@sjhospicelondon.com or 519-931-3463.

Direct Support Volunteers
Direct Support volunteers assist the clinical staff with the care of the residents.  Volunteers need to have completed Fundamentals of Palliative Care Training as well as 4 coaching/shadowing shifts for the role.

Grief and Bereavement Volunteers
Grief and Bereavement Volunteers support the bereaved in a variety of ways including facilitating Grief support and Mindfulness groups and leading Connecting With Others groups. They also assist with administrative work. 

Volunteer Drivers
Volunteers drive our palliative and bereaved clients to and from appointments at Hospice. They also drive our palliative clients to medical appointments in the community. Proof of insurance and driver's abstract required. Volunteers need to have completed Fundamentals of Palliative Care Training.

Kitchen Volunteers
Kitchen volunteers assist the Food and Nutrition Coordinator in the residential kitchen with meal preparation and sanitation of kitchen. 

Reception Volunteer
The reception volunteer role involves welcoming and directing clients, family members and guests at our Reception Centre. Answering the telephone and transferring calls.  Assisting with mail-outs. Refreshment set-up for internal meetings.

Volunteer Gardeners
Volunteers meet weekly from June through to October helping with planting, watering and weeding. If you have a passion for gardening, like being outdoors, enjoy meeting other volunteers this may be just the volunteer role for you.  


Volunteer Screening Process

All prospective volunteers will be subject to our screening process. St. Joseph's Hospice maintains the highest level of screening and training to ensure the safety of our clients, families, and volunteers.
