No Barriers Here

St. Joseph’s Hospice of London is delighted to be working in partnership with The Mary Stevens Hospice to launch the No Barriers Here program in Canada

What is No Barriers Here?

No Barriers Here is an equity-orientated, arts-based approach to advance care planning. It was originally co-produced in 2019 by people with learning disabilities, The Mary Stevens Hospice, Dudley Voices for Choice and an Art Psychotherapist.

It is a multi- award winning programme as a tool for healthcare workers to support advance care planning and a research method to better understand the experiences of people and communities who experience inequity accessing palliative care.

Testimonials

“The course helped me develop skills and understanding in using arts-based approach to advance care planning. Since then, I have carried out a number of community workshops for adults with learning disabilities which have gone really well. It has also been really effective by going into some of the local supported living homes to explore advance care planning together through ‘No Barriers Here’. The project has been so accessible and inclusive for all. It’s been lovely holding the workshops in groups as it has opened up discussions between everyone in terms of what would be important for us when we are at the end of our lives. It really is creating a truly personalised care plan and I am so pleased to be using this approach in my practice to support underserved populations.”

“Wow! I urge everyone who works in healthcare and is involved in care planning (not just advance care planning!) to learn about No Barriers Here and attend this training. I’m so excited to put it into practice with my patients.”
